Dutch artist Rop van Mierlo is behind Wild Animals. What began as an award-winning picture book is now a publishing house, a studio, and a platform for products based on his signature animal portraits—printed on T-shirts, sweaters, pullovers, postcards, or collected in books.
Van Mierlo works with a wet-on-wet technique in which color and form submit to their own logic—the moment of loss of control becomes a creative principle. His works poetically reflect the relationship between humans and nature, order and chaos.
His books and objects can be found in collections worldwide – from the MoMA in New York to the Design Museum London – and are created in collaborations with brands such as Hermès, Marni, and Head Porter. Wild Animals is an experimental space for images, materials, and ideas.
